A tiger mother lost her cubs from premature labour. Shortly after she became depressed and her health declined, and she was diagnosed with depression. So they wrapped up piglets in tiger cloth, and gave them to the tiger. The tiger now loves these pigs and treats them like her babies.

Adoption means that she doesn’t treat them like her babies. They are her babies. Period.

I hate to be the naysayer, but that’s not the story.

The zoo that does this intermingles animals all the time, and considers themselves to be part circus, part zoo. The tiger here actually nursed from a pig, though, so there is a lot of adoption love.

I wish more people did research on this before posting. Maura would be disappointed in you.

The point that someone else may have been trying to make is “Look, a set of orphans meets a grieving mother.” In that case, the actual facts are mistaken, and yes, shame on me for not researching absolutely everything I post.

The point I’m trying to make is: Adoption doesn’t mean that you love someone LIKE they’re your child; you love them BECAUSE they’re your child. In that case, the facts, while interesting, are irrelevant to the point, and I don’t feel bad for posting them. I also don’t care whether the piglets are named Piglet 1, Piglet 2, Piglet 3, Piglet 4, and Bob, or Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, Peter, and Bugs. (And yes, I’m aware there are more than four.)

As for Dr. Maura Isles, she cited the CHUMPS (Chocolate Happiness Undergoing More Pleasantness Study), which has been discredited, so she’s got nowhere to talk. :)
